Jeffery Smith, M.D.

Jeffery Smith is a psychiatrist with broad experience in outpatient treatment.  He has worked in the addiction field since 1980.  He is currently in full time private practice and teaches at both New York Medical College and the Westchester Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.

Dr. Smith was Director of Alcoholism Services at Westchester Medical Center in the eighties, and went on to establish Cortland Medical, the first evening intensive addiction program in Westchester County.  He has served twice as President of the Psychiatric Society of Westchester, a District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association.  He is published in scientific journals and has lectured on a range of topics including addiction, adolescence and psychotherapy theory.  He has appeared on Good Morning America and 60 Minutes.

Dr. Smith received his BA from Stanford and attended UCLA School of Medicine.  He trained in Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and has been board certified since 1978.  He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry.
